Lina Toyoda was born in Tokyo, Japan, and grew up on the west coast of Canada. She has played in an all-female rock band and spent two decades in journalism and video production across Toronto, Vancouver, B.C., and Honolulu, Hawaii, work that earned her a Jack Webster Award for business and economics reporting. She is a fiction writer and a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO) with a master's degree in psychotherapy and spiritual care from the University of Toronto, and she now lives and works in downtown Toronto. Her stories weave traditional Japanese mythology into historical fantasy for middle-grade readers, drawing on her cultural identity and often inspired by her dreams.
