Hasani Claxton is an author, visual artist, and educator originally from St. Kitts, West Indies, now based in Baltimore, Maryland, where he serves as Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at Coppin State University. His chapter "Love Me, Love My Banana Fritters" appears in the anthology The Antiracist Kitchen (Orca Book Publishers, 2023), honored with the Children's Book Council's 2024 Librarian Favorites and Teacher Favorites Awards and a spot on the Ontario Library Association's Best Bets list. He was part of the inaugural cohort of the Highlights Foundation and Brown Bookshelf's Amplify Black Stories program in 2020, and the Maryland State Arts Council recognized him with an Individual Artist Award in Literary Arts in 2022. As a visual artist, his work has been exhibited across the United States and in the United Kingdom and the Caribbean, including at the National Gallery of Jamaica, and he was a semifinalist for both the Trawick Art Prize (2017) and the Sondheim Art Prize (2020).
