Fiction

Alex Brett is an Ottawa-based novelist whose crime fiction draws on a career built at the intersection of science and storytelling. She earned a B.Sc. from Dalhousie University, completed graduate research in fisheries biology at the University of British Columbia, and spent roughly a decade at Canada's National Research Council as a press officer, writer, and editor, work she continues on contract today alongside several astrophysics institutes. Her Morgan O'Brien mystery series, published by Dundurn Press, follows a government investigator who specializes in science fraud: it began with Dead Water Creek (2003) and continued with Cold Dark Matter (2005), a finalist for the Crime Writers of Canada's Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel.
